An easy Sourdough Garlic Bread recipe with raw, minced garlic, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and a generous drizzle of olive oil. This garlic bread is both crunchy and soft, and it has a punchy kick!

This is my go-to garlic bread recipe for just about any occasion! We eat a lot of pasta, risotto, and soup in our house, and this is the perfect accompaniment. I love this Sourdough Garlic Bread because it is super garlicky and a little salty too. It has a bit of a punch to it that can help bring out the flavors in whatever dish you pair it with.
Why You'll Love this Recipe
- Goes with everything! We probably make this garlic bread at least twice a week in our house. Whenever we need a little something extra to go with our dinner, we whip this up in a pinch.
- Easy to make. With just a handful of ingredients that you already have in your pantry, this recipe is so simple to make. It only requires 5 minutes of prep time!
- Healthier take on garlic bread. Most garlic bread recipes are lathered in butter. This is a lightened up version that uses extra virgin olive oil.
- So, so garlicky! Using both raw, minced garlic and garlic powder gives this bread an extra garlicky punch. The addition of salt helps bring out the garlicky flavor too. 🙂
Ingredients

I use sourdough bread because I love how crispy the outer layer is and how soft and fluffy the bread itself is. Raw garlic cloves are minced for that extra bit of crunchy texture and for a punchy garlic flavor.
Extra virgin olive oil is a light, subtly sweet, earthy and balanced alternative to butter, which is common in most garlic bread recipes. The oil is combined with garlic powder for extra garlicky flavor, salt to bring out the flavors and add saltiness, and black pepper for a little bite and seasoning.
How to Make Sourdough Garlic Bread
Preheat the oven to 400F.
Slice the sourdough bread and arrange the slices on a baking sheet.
Add the minced garlic to a small bowl. Add the olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Use a spoon to mix everything together well.

Spoon the garlicky mixture evenly over top of the sourdough slices.

Bake in the oven for about 10 minutes, or until desired crispiness. If you like more oily, chewy garlic bread, you may want to remove it earlier. If you prefer your garlic bread to be extra crispy, you may want to leave it in longer. It helps to turn the oven light on so you can keep an eye on it.

Chef Tips
- Buy high quality sourdough bread. The quality of the bread makes all the difference! Buy your bread locally or use a trusted brand. Better yet, make your own if you have the time!
- Slice the bread with a good knife. I recommend using a sharp serrated knife to slice the sourdough bread.
- Use a garlic press. If you just loathe mincing garlic yourself, then grab the garlic press! It saves a bit of time and keeps your fingers from getting sticky. 😉
What to Serve Garlic Bread With
Garlic bread pairs perfectly with any Italian dish, like my Tofu Ricotta Lasagna or Creamy Tomato Gnocchi!
It's a natural accompaniment for pasta dishes. Try it with my Grilled Zucchini Pesto Pasta, Creamy Lemon Pasta, or Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese.
It also goes well with any warm and creamy main dish, like this Lemon Asparagus Risotto!
Garlic bread is great for dipping into soups or for breaking apart to use as croutons. I've enjoyed it with my Thai Butternut Squash Soup and French Lentil Soup. You could also use it as croutons for this Grilled Romaine with Vegan Caesar Dressing.
If you really want to indulge, we love making this Vegan Supreme Pizza and using the leftover pizza sauce to dip this garlic bread into. Simply warm up the sauce and serve it as an appetizer!
Frequently Asked Questions

What does Sourdough Garlic Bread taste like?
This garlic bread has crispy, crunchy edges with a chewy center that is rich with olive oil. It is very garlicky with a hint of saltiness.
Can I make garlic bread ahead of time?
For this recipe, it is best enjoyed when it is freshly made and warm. Once garlic bread sits overnight it gets a bit crispier—though still delicious!
What other types of bread can I use?
French bread or any other type of rustic bakery bread works great for this recipe!
Can I used store-bought minced garlic instead of garlic cloves?
I do not suggest doing this as minced garlic from a jar often contains additives and can affect the flavor of the recipe.

Storage & Reheating
Store the garlic bread in an airtight container and leave it on the counter. I recommend using it up within a day, as it will get crispier overnight. I warm the bread back up in my toaster oven or oven for just a few minutes at 350F.
